EUROPEAN HISTORY: LIGHTS AND SHADOWS

This academic year Batxilergo students could taste two very different sides of European history:
a school trip to Italy with visits to Rome and Asis helped students understand our cultural background

Halina Birenbaum, a survivor from Auschwitz concentration camp , gave us her testimony of the darkest shadows in Nazi Germany. Students listened to her experience and asked her questions about the Holocaust. Her words, without a single glimpse of hate, were a reminder of all those conflicts in the world which should be solved with dialogue and understanding of diversity.

WOMEN AND SCIENCE. WHY NOT? THIS IS AN OLD STORY EVEN IF WE HAVEN´T HEARD MUCH ABOUT IT.

March and April are months closely related to the empowering of women in our society. We celebrate the International Day of Women in Science on February 11th and March 8th is Women´s Day. Raising social awareness is a must in education. Our 1st year Batxilergo students (art and technology) took part in a world café to debate the role of women in science and art. 3rd DBH students designed posters for March 8th with a clear message that new generations are determined to lead a deep social change to make women free and equal.

EXCHANGES. ON THE ROAD AGAIN THIS YEAR !

Like every year in springtime, time for travelling and the best chances to make good friends and enjoy family life in French and German. Our hosts, Sainte Anne (Carquefou, near Nantes) and Friedrich Engels (Berlin). This year we have started a partnership with another school in Berlin (Askanisches Gymnasium). Good choice and great experience. Optional languages in Ekialdea (French and German) definitely need this practical approach. Languages in real life opening doors and taking our students far away ...

GENDER EQUALITY: OUR CHALLENGE, OUR DUTY

Hecho con Padlet

The ELOS  team met Iker Zirion, International Public Law professor at Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, Leioa, on 2nd March. Students discussed the topic and worked on a SWOT analysis (StrengthsWeaknessesOpportunities, and Threats) related to gender equality
They all agreed there is a long way ahead and this important issue is our duty as citizens and our challenge as young people seeking for a fair world to share, no matter gender or other aspects such as beliefs, race or origin. The exchange of ideas proved to be inspiring and highly motivating. Batxilergo students could feel that their university days are round the corner and Leioa University turned out to be an interesting setting to feel the connection between further education and social awareness and involvement. The padlet shows the warmingup work our team did to prepare this meeting.
